How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

Ticket price: $26.50. (Babies 2 and under are free. Their tickets must be reserved from the Box Office, in person or over the phone)

Presented by Bev Facey High School

Here is Rydell High's senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head "greaser" Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their "Summer Nights" as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as "Greased Lightnin'," "It's Raining on Prom Night," "Alone at the Drive-In Movie" recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. An eight-year run on Broadway and two subsequent revivals, along with innumerable school and community productions place Grease among the world's most popular musicals

Tammy Weis Sings Fernando Pessoa Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 7:30 PM MDT

Festival Place
×

Tickets range from: $25 to $28

Weis defines Soul Whisper as the “construction of a folk-oriented soundscape, but always with jazz influences”, which are her musical roots. The recording process of this album was intense: “Fernando Pessoa has changed the way I think and live my life, said Weis. He brought out emotion in me I didn’t know I had. A vulnerability in my voice that I hadn’t heard before”. The album itself is unprecedented: it’s the first time that a foreigner has set to music, a full album of Pessoa’s poetry. Fernando Pessoa was the most important Portuguese writer in the 20th Century & the album was given the approval of Fernando Pessoa’s nephew Luis Miguel Rosa Dias (1931-2019) who witnessed many of the recordings.

Nick Lowe & Ron Sexsmith - The Great Indoors Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 7:30 PM MDT

Festival Place
×

Tickets range from: $49 to $52

For the first time in well over a decade songwriter/friends Nick Lowe and Ron Sexsmith will be hitting the road together again for a five city Canadian tour. Each artist will be performing a solo set as well as teaming up on a few songs!

It will be a memorable night of music, stories and possibly a few surprises

Nick Lowe has made his mark as a producer (Elvis Costello-Graham Parker-Pretenders-The Damned), songwriter of at least three songs you know by heart, short-lived career as a pop star, and a lengthy term as a musicians’ musician. But in his current ‘second act’ as a silver-haired, tender-hearted but sharp-tongued singer-songwriter, he has no equal.

Ron Sexsmith is one of Canada’s most accomplished singer-songwriters. He has collaborated with the likes of Daniel Lanois, Mitchell Froom, Ane Brun, Tchad Blake, and Bob Rock. His songwriting appears on albums from Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris and Feist. His inimitable work has drawn praise from the likes of Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello and Chris Martin to name just a few. He has been awarded 3 Juno Awards, having been nominated 15 times including eight nods for Songwriter of the Year.

Praised by Opera Canada for both her dramatic depth and keen comedic gifts, she is a rising star in the Canadian classical music scene. She sang the title role in Rossini's La Cenerentola (Cinderella) for Manitoba Opera and Brott Opera, Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina for Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, returned to the Orchestra Borealis to sing Rossini's Giovanna d'Arco cantata (Joan of Arc), and returned to Manitoba Chamber Orchestra for a world premiere performance of a work commissioned for Lizzy by the MCO which highlighted both her classical and folk singing (The Ruins of Time).

A collection of her favourite traditional songs, this album features Lizzy's sublime vocals and poignant arranging. She is joined by her long-time bandmates, Keith Rempel (bass, harmonies) and Chris Tabbert (guitar, mandolin) for an evening of tender Celtic songs, historically inspired original songs from previous projects, and rollicking fiddle sets!

A vagabond turned mailman, Jay Gilday has searched for himself in the depths of Folk, blues, traditional, rock and most recently soul music. The quest continues as Jay takes his experiences as a half Dene, half Canadian Irish youth travelling the roads of Canada, the daily roller-coaster of work, family, and performance and weaves them into song. Jay’s live performance is executed with a trained voice and a passion to drive it backed up by a heavy hitting guitar, finger-style or flat-picked, your choice!

Cristian De La Luna's pop-Latin-folk music is both contagious and inviting. A versatile artist that combines the simplicity of folk story-telling, Caribbean percussion and the jazzy warmth of brass instruments. Deeply rooted in his Colombian roots, he explores the four corners of his heart through the depth of emotions to the playful naivety of our childhood. Cristian has two albums to his credit, both in Spanish and in French. His performances are endearing and captivating.

Shooglenifty

Shooglenifty was formed in 1990 by musicians from the Scottish Highlands, Orkney and Edinburgh. Its bright spark was the idea of fusing traditional and traditional-sounding melodies with the beats and basslines of a mixed bag of more contemporary influences. As happy playing a small highland village hall as they are on an outdoor festival stage playing to tens of thousands, the Shoogles (as they’re known to their fans) have promoted Scottish music all over the world for three decades.

John Hewitt

John Hewitt is a force not seen since the end of the 70’s. There are bands, artists and songwriters that mimic and imitate but John Hewitt absorbs and reimagines. From folk clubs to house concerts, festivals to halls John is a master of storytelling, arranging, producing and a painter of poems scarcely seen in today’s musical climate. Since his early teens taking in the powerful sounds of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and the Grateful Dead he has been wandering, searching and yielding a crop of new ideas from the old world. A multi-instrumentalist from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and being Alberta bound since 2018 John’s mark on the Western music scene is impossible to go unnoticed. Performing over 150 shows per year (From Alberta and British Columbia to Montana, Colorado, California and beyond), covering 20,000 miles per annum and releasing upwards of 3 albums in that same timeframe there is no comparison to the work ethic, the attitude and the drive that John has as an artist. His latest release is "Aphrodite & Me" a 192 page book of lyrics, stories from the road and essays on the current state of the music industry. Fronting the New Americans and touring solo most of the year his output impresses the young and the old, the folk and the rock, the country and the town and the only thing left at the end of the night is a feeling you won’t get anywhere else.

Meredith Moon

It’s one thing to fall in love with old-time music and learn how to shred on clawhammer-style Appalachian banjo. It’s another to consciously live the life: hitchhiking and riding the rails while learning your craft and writing about your travels. The title track and first single from Meredith Moon’s new album, Constellations, was written in 2017 about the wanderlust of her younger days — not that those days are done. Though she’s not hitchhiking anymore.

You’ll never know what genre of entertainment will take to the stage for you to enjoy!

Lester Quitzau

Meet Canadian multi Juno Award winning roots music artist and snowboarding pioneer Lester Quitzau, a mellow guy who throws down a heavy groove. In a field where intangibles like feel and integrity count for so much, Quitzau has forged an exemplary career. Distilling the experience of the past 35 years of writing, recording and performing his music, Lester has come up with an approach that is his own. His unique style and fluidity on slide, acoustic and electric guitars, coupled with his well crafted songs and warm vocals, are the fruits of this musical journey. Many of his followers have watched his career with love and loyalty in what began as a solid traditional folk/ blues foundation, that has branched out into myriad of influences and a sound that is his own. What began with a solid blues apprenticeship in the funky working-class bars of Alberta's capital city has grown into an eclectic and constantly evolving musical journey. Together with the amazing Sandro Dominelli on drums, the two lock into amazing spontaneous grooves where anything seems possible.

BuenRostro

They grew up listening to the elder Nahuatl speakers—with their deeply rooted traditions and customs—while also being exposed to the modern culture of a cosmopolitan city. These are the sounds that inspired them to experiment and create a fusion of their ancestor’s traditional Mexican rhythms with global melodies. Their music is a combination of sones calentanos from Bajío, jarochos or huastecos; jarabes, pirekuas, cardenche songs and cumbias; sambas, rock, and jazz. The members of BuenRostro played and danced those rhythms even before the inception of the group on October 8th, 2010. With time and experience their sound matured, resulting in their current “infusion” of different musical genres and styles.
