Carlos del Junco Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 7:30 PM MDT

Festival Place Cafe

Playing a ten hole diatonic harmonica, Carlos has developed the unique ability to play chromatically by using a recently developed "overblow" technique taught to him by jazz virtuoso Howard Levy. Overall, this approach to the diatonic harmonica, although much more difficult to achieve, is in many ways more expressive and communicative than the mechanized tone produced by the chromatic harmonica. Carlos is one of the few pioneers of this overblow method, bringing musical credibility to what has still been considered by many in the music industry - a fringe folk instrument. The sophisticated sound produced by del Junco is both soulful and sensitive while never forgetting the rawness inherent in blues music.

Raven by Still Hungry Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 7:30 PM MDT

Festival Place

From 2019 CHAMÄLEON Productions will produce the contemporary circus piece RAVEN by the Berlin artist collective still hungry. The collective consists of the three artists Anke van Engelshoven, Lena Ries and Romy Seibt, who came together after many years of friendship to create innovative circus pieces together. Their works are fresh, feminist, strong, and do not shy away from exploring personal themes that are not easily found in circus. In RAVEN, the artists explore the complex theme of motherhood. Based on their own experiences as artists and mothers, the performers intelligently and strikingly shed light on the stigma of the German term "Rabenmutter" (raven mother). With disarming directness, the performers present a moving performance on stage, challenging the status quo and inviting us to question and reconsider preconceived notions and sexist clichés.

Classic Albums Live: Pink Floyd Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 7:30 PM MDT

Festival Place

Twenty million people bought this album first on vinyl, the cassette, then CD. Then one day it was on our phones, we‘ve lived a life alongside this album. Dark Side of the Moon came out in 1974 and it was everywhere. The album cover prism was drawn on countless school binders, we started paying attention to the sound of cash registers, having a good stereo system was a thing.
Classic Albums live knows how to perform this album, it‘s complex and full of soul. Just getting the alarm clocks together was a feat, all the little voices. Then you had to find someone that could sing ‘great gig in the sky‘ we did and it‘s joyous.
The musicians care about this album it was our flagships show in 2003. It‘s the album that changed everything, it‘s a masterpiece that will be remembered forever. – Craig Martin. Founder, Classic Albums Live.

NEW DATES - HYPROV (pronounced hip-rawv) is coming to you straight from a 70-show run Off-Broadway in New York City!! HYPROV is "hilarious and fascinating'' (says Time Out New York) and is "catnip for those who relish spontaneity and informality," (The Wall Street Journal). The New Yorker says, "say yes to HYPROV,"! The 100-minute live show combines hypnosis and improv - two art forms that have mystified and entertained fans, skeptics and everyone in between worldwide - for a totally unique comedy experience that The Times of London declared "a celebration of the human imagination." Your evening begins with Hypnotist Extraordinaire, Asad Mecci welcoming 20 volunteers* on stage to be hypnotized. The most receptive to hypnosis then join Colin Mochrie (Whose Line is it, Anyway?) to improvise the rest of the show, while hypnotized. In the hands of two experts, and solely crafted from the volunteers' uninhibited, unconscious minds and audience suggestions, each show is an entirely original and completely unforgettable theatrical experience.
