Martin Kerr

Martin Kerr’s troubadour dreams just keep on coming true. The red-headed British/Canadian singer-songwriter made legions of new fans around the world this year, opening for Dermot Kennedy, Walk Off The Earth, The Strumbellas and Billy Raffoul, and headlining at summer festivals. After 15 years going it alone as a street-performer, and visiting 35 countries, he signed with his ‘dream label’, Nettwerk Records (Passenger, Paper Kites) and released 2 acclaimed EPs, Don’t Listen to Me and What you Don’t Know. Producers Ryan Stewart (Owl City) and Ben Cramer (Old Sea Brigade) lend Kerr’s sound new depth, with dreamy soundscapes accentuating the power of Kerr’s voice and writing - somewhere between James Taylor and Radiohead, tackling themes intimate and universal, romantic and apocalyptic, and laced with his dry British humour. This December Martin suddenly gained millions of views on Instagram and Tiktok, when his controversial take on two classic Christmas songs went viral. God Rest Ye Merry Billionaires, a stinging rebuke of extreme inequality, drew attention to the crisis of homelessness, and was shared by Hollywood stars on social media. The other, Away In Bomb Shelters, was adopted as a peace anthem by groups around the world.

Steamboats and Railways, Love and Loss, Triumphs, and Tragedies

The Canadian West is a land of legends, where pioneers and outlaws, heroes and villains, steamboats and railways, fur trade and rebellion, love and loss, and triumph and tragedy shaped the nation’s destiny.

Tim Isberg, a singer/songwriter, veteran soldier, and gifted storyteller, invites you to explore our fascinating history based on his acclaimed third album 'Prairie Fire', featuring original story songs that breathe life into the captivating tales of events and characters of the 19th century Canadian Prairies and Western Plains.

From the arrival of the railway that sparked a boom in immigration and commerce, to the legendary scout Jerry Potts who aided the arrival of the North West Mounted Police and relations with indigenous peoples, to the steamboats on the Saskatchewan River that transported goods and people across the vast territory, to the letters from an early Mountie to his fiancée in Toronto that reveal the hardships and joys of frontier life, each song is a window into the lives of those who shaped the Canadian west.

Through his artful storytelling in Prairie Fire, Tim Isberg not only entertains but also educates, offering audiences a melodious journey through our nation’s formative years.

Its latest album, TIME to TIME, released June 9, 2023 across all digital platforms, and on LP and CD, finds the band taking a step back to reflect on and revisit the best-loved tracks from Snow in June. The Pikes have stripped the songs down to their essentials and created fresh acoustic arrangements of “Dream Away,” “Love These Hands,” “Kiss Me You Fool,” “She Ain't Pretty,” “Green Fields,” “Girl With a Problem,” and the title track. They’ve also included three new songs that seamlessly fit into flow with “Only a Lover's Dream,” “The Things You Saw in Me,” and “Taken.” All of the tunes feature The Pikes’ core trademarks, including gorgeous vocal harmonies, pulsing basslines, lush and piercing guitar, and kinetic, creative drumming.

The band’s lineup includes vocalist and bassist Jay Semko, vocalist and lead guitarist Bryan Potvin, and drummer Don Schmid, who’ve been together as a working unit, on and off, since 1986. It also features vocalist and guitarist Kevin Kane, co-founder of the iconic Grapes of Wrath, who joined as a full-time member in 2017. In addition, the recording includes guest appearances from violinist Donald MacLennan and keyboardist Glenn Patscha.

Corb Lund Trio Friday, November 8, 2024 at 7:30 PM MST

Festival Place
×

Tickets range from $58 to $64

The western Canadian singer-songwriter is an elusive artist — onstage, offstage, and in the studio — seamlessly weaving between the outlaw country, Western, and indie-folk realms with an honest curiosity and rowdy devotion to each. He was raised with the tried and true DIY sentiment of “if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself” launching his career recording in his basement, printing his own shirts, booking his own tours, being his own manager and publicist… whatever it took to get it done. He toured for years with the indie-metal band the smalls, and later turned his sights to writing Western songs, creating a unique and quirky hybrid writing style along the way. He has received multiple domestic and international award nominations and wins. In 2022, Lund won his 14th career Canadian Country Music Award and made his debut at the historic Grand Ole Opry earlier this year as well. His album of originals, El Viejo, was released in February 2024.
