Matilda, a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers, lives with cruel parents who find her to be a nuisance, a lousy little worm, and a bore. When Matilda enters her first term at school, she captures the attention of Miss Honey, a kind teacher, and the two form a wonderful friendship. Unfortunately, the school is ruled by a tempestuous and mean headmistress named Miss Trunchbull, who hates children and delivers cruel and unjust punishments to all her charges. Born in Montreal, Allison Russell -- 4-time Grammy-nominated poet, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, activist and co-founder of Our Native Daughters (with Rhiannon Giddens, Leyla McCalla and Amythyst Kiah) and Birds of Chicago (with JT Nero) -- is a multi-faceted tour de force. In her critically acclaimed debut album Outside Child, she unpacks her youth through stories of deliverance and redemption, detailing the places, people, and realizations that helped her survive and claim her freedom.

There are many reasons to be excited about new Glasgow-based five-piece Ímar - not least a line-up featuring current and former members of Mànran, RURA, Talisk, Barrule and Cara whose collectively crammed trophy-cabinet includes the 2018 BBC Radio 2 Musician of the Year, 2016 Radio Scotland Musician of the Year, BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award, BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and several All-Britain & All-Ireland titles. The Heartstrings & Honky Tonks series will celebrate 840 CFCW’s 70th birthday and as salute to the iconic Grand Ole Opry, four incredible shows will allow both the artists and audience to be part of something truly special as the performances are broadcast live on 840 AM radio. These special nights will be hosted by CFCW’s own Jackie Rae and will take place in theaters in Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, and Camrose Alberta. This historic evening of live music will be set in a traditional Nashville style songwriters round, often also called a guitar pull. These sessions will feature incredible songwriters as they share their stories and take the audience on an emotional journey singing both songs they have written, performed the way they were originally intended, along with songs that hold a special place in their own heart.
