The Northern Pikes Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 7:30 PM MDT

Festival Place
×

Tickets range from: $45 to $49

The Northern Pikes are one of a handful of acts that have a permanent footprint on the psyche of generations of Canadian rock and pop fans. Since first forming in Saskatoon in 1984, the group has had one platinum album with 1990’s Snow in June, four gold LPs, and eight hit singles that remain mainstays across the country. Its latest album, TIME to TIME, released June 9, 2023 across all digital platforms, and on LP and CD, finds the band taking a step back to reflect on and revisit the best-loved tracks from Snow in June. The Pikes have stripped the songs down to their essentials and created fresh acoustic arrangements of “Dream Away,” “Love These Hands,” “Kiss Me You Fool,” “She Ain't Pretty,” “Green Fields,” “Girl With a Problem,” and the title track. They’ve also included three new songs that seamlessly fit into flow with “Only a Lover's Dream,” “The Things You Saw in Me,” and “Taken.” All of the tunes feature The Pikes’ core trademarks, including gorgeous vocal harmonies, pulsing basslines, lush and piercing guitar, and kinetic, creative drumming. The band’s lineup includes vocalist and bassist Jay Semko, vocalist and lead guitarist Bryan Potvin, and drummer Don Schmid, who’ve been together as a working unit, on and off, since 1986. It also features vocalist and guitarist Kevin Kane, co-founder of the iconic Grapes of Wrath, who joined as a full-time member in 2017. In addition, the recording includes guest appearances from violinist Donald MacLennan and keyboardist Glenn Patscha.

RECOMMENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCE

It’s 1973 - PETER GABRIEL's famous theatrics and GENESIS' musical apex produce some of the most iconic images and sounds of the 70’s, enjoying to this day a cult following.

A TIMELESS CLASSIC.

THE MUSICAL BOX, who shared the stage with PHIL COLLINS and STEVE HACKETT as performing guests and acclaimed by more than a million spectators in some of the most prestigious venues in the world such as London’s ROYAL ALBERT HALL and Paris’ OLYMPIA, will perform the emblematic 1973 show in painstaking detail - starting Fall 2023.

TAKE A LITTLE TRIP BACK

PETER GABRIEL

"TMB recreated, very accurately I must say, what Genesis was doing. I saw them in Bristol with my children so they could see what their father did back then"

PHIL COLLINS

"They're not a tribute band, they have taken a period and are faithfully reproducing it in the same way that someone would do a theatrical production.

Tickets range from $58 to $64

The western Canadian singer-songwriter is an elusive artist — onstage, offstage, and in the studio — seamlessly weaving between the outlaw country, Western, and indie-folk realms with an honest curiosity and rowdy devotion to each. He was raised with the tried and true DIY sentiment of “if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself” launching his career recording in his basement, printing his own shirts, booking his own tours, being his own manager and publicist… whatever it took to get it done. He toured for years with the indie-metal band the smalls, and later turned his sights to writing Western songs, creating a unique and quirky hybrid writing style along the way. He has received multiple domestic and international award nominations and wins. In 2022, Lund won his 14th career Canadian Country Music Award and made his debut at the historic Grand Ole Opry earlier this year as well. His album of originals, El Viejo, was released in February 2024.

In November and December 2024, GREGORIAN will continue with their PURE CHANTS World Tour in Canada and in the USA. Frank Peterson, the creator and producer of GREGORIAN says: “Our Pure Chants concerts bring the most popular GREGORIAN classics in an atmospheric and tranquil sound environment. Pure Chants concerts are extremely peaceful, yet spectacular and unite the audience with the most beautiful melodies in the world.” The idea for GREGORIAN was born when Frank Peterson visited the royal monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial in Spain in 1989. Wandering through the medieval monastery and castle complex and listening to contemporary music on his Walkman, he found the inspiration for the sound experiment of mixing ancient Gregorian music with modern music. Peterson first realized his idea with Michael Cretu and the worldwide sound phenomenon "Enigma". Their first album "MCMXC a.D." was released in 1990 and quickly became a worldwide success. "MCMXC a.D." was number 1 in 41 different countries and went 57 times platinum and 45 times gold. It is considered as the most successful German album of all time worldwide. This gigantic success paved the way for GREGORIAN to take the musical idea one step further and to establish it as an independent music act. In 1999, with the start of production on the first album "Masters Of Chant", Frank Peterson seamlessly built on the success of "Enigma". In the following years, GREGORIAN has sold over 10 million CDs and 7 DVDs worldwide and achieved gold and platinum status in 24 different countries. At the end of 2024 and thus in time for their Anniversary World Tourin 2025, Frank Peterson will release a new GREGORIAN album. The album will include new songs as well as re-recordings of some well-known GREGORIAN classics. Frank Peterson has been involved in various musical projects and international productions for over 30 years. He has worked as a producer with Sarah Brightman, Enigma, Justin Timberlake, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Stanley (Kiss), Backstreet Boys, Alannah Myles, José Carreras, Tom Jones, Plácido Domingo, Errol Brown, Ofra Haza, Sandra, Josh Groban, Marky Mark, I Muvrini, Florent Pagny and Ricardo Cocciante, among others. In addition to GREGORIAN, Peterson has also been working as a show producer for Sarah Brightman and other top stars since 2005. Together with the world star, he produced the album and cinema production "Sarah Brightman - Hymn", which was acclaimed by critics worldwide.
